The SINP Saskatchewan Work Experience Category

The SINP Saskatchewan Work Experience Category is for foreign workers living in Saskatchewan on a valid work permit, who want to apply for permanent residence in the province. It is the Canadian federal government that sets the number of nominees to the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program or SINP. Hence the SINP may close categories once it meets the ceiling of nominations per stream and sub-stream.

Saskatchewan Work Experience

The sub-streams include:

  • Skilled Worker with Existing Work Permit
  • Semi-skilled Agricultural Worker with Existing Work Permit
  • Health Professionals
  • Hospitality Sector Project/Hospitality Sector Pilot Project
  • Long-Haul Truck Driver Project
  • Students

Skilled Worker With Existing Work Permit SINP Sub-Category

You may qualify for the skilled worker with an existing work permit sub-stream if you have been working in Saskatchewan for at least six months under a valid work permit. The other requirements are as follows:

  • Have a permanent full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.
    • The job is required to be in National Occupation Classification (NOC) Matrix “A”, “B” or “0”; or in a designated trade as listed below.
    • Your six-month work experience is for the same employer offering you the job.
    • The permanent, full-time job offer must be for the same position that you have been working in for the past six months.
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter; and
  • Your English language test must at least be the equivalent of CLB 4.
  • If your occupation is regulated in Saskatchewan and requires compulsory certification licensure, you must show proof of eligibility for Saskatchewan licensure. Check if your intended occupation is regulated in Saskatchewan.

You cannot apply to the Skilled Worker With Existing Work Permit Sub-Category if you belong to any of the following groups:

  • Health professionals. Apply instead to the SINP Health Professional sub-category.
  • Food and Beverage Servers/Persons. You must apply under to the Hospitality Sector Project sub-category, instead.
  • Graduates working on a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Apply to the Saskatchewan Experience – Student sub-category or the International Skilled Worker – Employment Offer sub-category.

Semi-skilled Agricultural Worker With Existing Work Permit Sub-Category

Saskatchewan is known for its grains, oilseeds, and pulses that is used in Canada or exported. In fact, more than 40% of Canada’s farmland, about six million hectares of natural land or pasture, is in Saskatchewan. Agricultural workers are, therefore, essential to the economy of Saskatchewan.

To qualify, you must be able to prove that you have been working in Saskatchewan for six months or more on a valid work permit, as a General Farm Worker or Nursery and Greenhouse Worker.

If you meet the first factor for eligibility, you must also meet the following criteria:

  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter for a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer in one of the following occupations:
    • NOC 8431: General Farm Worker;
    • NOC 8432: Nursery and Greenhouse Worker.
  • Your current job offer must be for the same position you worked in for the last six months, and for the same employer.
  • The existing work permit you hold must be for one of the following programs:
    • Seasonal Agriculture Worker Program;
    • International Experience Canada;
    • Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
  • Demonstrate the required language skills equivalent to CLB 4 for NOC C occupations.
  • Equivalent of a Canada secondary school education.

You cannot apply to this sub-category if you are a post-secondary school graduate working on a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit. Apply instead to the Saskatchewan Experience – Student sub-category or the International Skilled Worker – Employment Offer sub-category.

Saskatchewan Work Experience Health Professionals Sub-Category

You may apply as an SINP Health Professional if you worked in the province on a valid work permit for at least six months as a physician, a nurse, or another health professional. A valid SINP Job Approval Letter is required.

The other criteria are as follows:

  • You have been practicing as a physician or a nurse in Saskatchewan for at least six months.
  • Whether you are a physician or nurse, you must have a permanent, full-time job offer.
  • If you are a physician, the job offer is issued by a provincial health authority or the health education institution where you are currently working. Your work is verified with documents that describe your permanent arrangement to practice medicine in Saskatchewan.
  • If you are a nurse, the job offer is from Saskatchewan Health Authority, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or another publicly-funded health employer.

If you work in another health profession, listed in NOC level A, B, C, or 0, you must meet the following additional criteria:

  • Be currently working in a health job supported by the appropriate regional health authority, licensing body or another employer.
  • Have at least one academic year of post-secondary education or job-specific training.
  • You have been working in an approved health job in Saskatchewan, for at least 6 months for the employer offering you a permanent job, in the same job position.
  • The permanent, full-time job offer is from Saskatchewan Health Authority. Saskatchewan Cancer Agency another publicly-funded health employer.
  • Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the English language.

Hospitality Sector Project Sub-Category

Food and Beverage Servers must apply under the Hospitality Sector Pilot Project sub-category.

This sub-category is for you if you are currently working in Saskatchewan as one of the following for at least six months:

  • Food and beverage server.
  • Food counter attendant.
  • Kitchen helper.
  • Housekeeping and cleaning staff .

If you are not currently working in Saskatchewan, you may still apply to the Hospitality Sector category as a Food/Beverage Server if you have proof that you previously worked in Saskatchewan for a minimum of six months as a Food/Beverage Server.

Hospitality Sector Pilot Project Sub-Category

You may apply to this pilot project to gain permanent residence in Saskatchewan if you are currently working in one of the three following occupations on a temporary work permit:

  • Food/Beverage Server (NOC 6513)
  • Food Counter Attendant/Kitchen Helper (NOC 6711)
  • Housekeeping/Cleaning Staff (NOC 6731);

You must also meet the following criteria:

  • Worked in Saskatchewan for at least six months (or 960 hours) and met all work and performance standards.
  • Completed at least Grade 12 education or its equivalent.
  • Worked for an employer that was approved by the SINP to participate in the Hospitality Sector Project.
  • Have an offer of permanent employment from an approved Saskatchewan employer;
  • Demonstrate at least Canadian Language Benchmark or CLB level 4 sufficient proficiency in the English language;
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter.

Long-Haul Truck Driver Project Sub-Category

This sub-category is for drivers who are currently working for an approved trucking firm in Saskatchewan. The minimum work-experience requirement is six months with their current employer. The applicant Long Haul Truck Driver must hold a valid temporary work permit to transition to permanent resident status.

Other Requirements are as Follows:

  • Hold a Saskatchewan Class 1A license;
  • Have an offer of full-time permanent employment from current employer;
  • Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the English language.
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter.

Saskatchewan Work Experience Students Sub-Category

This sub-category is for you if you graduated from any recognized post-secondary institution inside or outside Saskatchewan. Regardless of where you graduated from, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Post-Graduation Work Permit;
  • Have an indeterminate full-time job offer in your field of study from a Saskatchewan employer.
    The job should be:
    • NOC A, B, or 0;
    • In a designated trade;
    • Related to your field of study and require post-secondary education.
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter.
  • Demonstrate required language skills for NOC C occupations.

If you graduated from a post-secondary school outside Saskatchewan, you must meet these additional requirements:

  • Worked in Saskatchewan for at least twenty-four months before applying to the SINP.
  • Worked at least six consecutive months (or 960 hours) of paid employment in Saskatchewan in a position related to your field of study.
  • Obtained a certificate, diploma, or degree from a program of at least 8 months of full-time study.

If you graduated from a post-secondary school in Saskatchewan, you must meet these additional requirements:

  • Worked at least six consecutive months (or 960 hours) of paid employment in Saskatchewan in a position related to your field of study.
  • Obtained a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian post-secondary educational institution subsequent to a program of at least 8 months of full-time study.
