Occupations Still OPEN for Skilled Migration to Australia

Skilled workers and professionals intending to migrate to Australia based on their occupation must submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect. Draws are made regularly based on the subclass categories and the occupation limits within a specific subclass.

LAWYERS, AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICIANS SCORE ZERO

OCCUPATION CEILING UNDER AUSTRALIA’S SKILLSELECT

What do Barristers, Automotive Electricians, Trade workers, Livestock farmers have in common in Australia?  All of them have no sponsoring employers to date (March 5, 2015).

This according to the Occupation Ceiling under Australia’s SkillSelect system, Australia’s skilled migrant selection system. A Skilled Migrant submits an Expression of Interest to the pool. Draws are made on a regular basis to select applicants meeting the criteria.

To ensure that not one occupation dominates SkillSelect applicants and nominees, the Department of Home Affairs set up an Occupation Ceiling monitoring system to keep a running balance of the number of occupations selected within each category.

What subclasses are subject to the Occupation Ceiling?

An 'occupation ceiling' might be applied to invitations issued under the independent, skilled regional (provisional) visas.

Once a limit is reached, “no further invitations for that particular occupation group will be issued for that program year. Invitations will then be allocated to intending migrants in other occupation groups even if they are lower ranking.”

As of  5 March, Barristers, Automotive Electricians and other tradespersons as well as Boatbuilders and Shipwrights show zero or “0” no application selected at all. The complete listing is shown below:

Occupation ceilings do not apply to State or Territory Nominated, Employer Sponsored or Business Innovation and Investment visa subclasses.
