Good news for certain skilled workers outside Canada:  Saskatchewan has published a list of occupations in demand in the province; job offer is not required to apply and qualify but now there should be less than 700 available slots.  And the total is getting fewer by the week.

List of Occupations in Demand

  1.  Computer and Information Systems Managers
  2. Managers in social, community and correctional services
  3. Recreation, sports and fitness program and service directors
  4. Facility preparation and maintenance managers
  5. Managers in agriculture
  6. Property administrators
  7. Purchasing agents and officers
  8. Health information management occupations
  9. Mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries
  10. Information systems analyst and consultants
  11. Biological technologists and technicians
  12. Landscape and horticulture technicians and specialists
  13. Civil engineering technologists and technicians
  14. Mechanical engineering technologists and technicians
  15. Aircraft instrument, electrical and avionics mechanics, technicians and inspectors
  16. Drafting technologists and technicians
  17. Technical occupations in geomantic and meteorology
  18. Gas fitters
  19. Heavy duty equipment mechanics
  20. Automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers
  21. Appliance services and repairers

How to Qualify

This sub-category stream is open to skilled workers who are either outside Canada or are already in Canada with proof of legal status. Applicants must:

  • Score a minimum of 60 points out of 100 on the SINP point assessment grid;
  • Have a language score of at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 or the IELTS equivalent score of 4.0 in Writing and Speaking, 4.5 in Listening and 3.5 in Reading.  Since applicants are ranked according to scores and employers would require higher language proficiency, it is recommended that you target the highest score possible such as CLB 7 or the equivalent of 7.0 in each of the IELTS components in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
  • Have qualification/education/academic transcript assessed as the equivalent of a Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma (at least 1 year in length
  • Have at least one-year work experience in the occupation applying for (field of education and training) in the past 10 years:
  • Evidence of eligibility for Saskatchewan licensure if intended occupation is in a regulated profession or compulsory apprenticeship trade
  • Have proof of settlement funds  and a settlement plan.
