Canada Parent and Grandparent Program Reopens in 2018

If you wish to sponsor your parents and/or grandparents (and their eligible dependents) in 2018 to immigrate to Canada, then you've got to stay sharp.

  • First, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada or IRCC will only be accepting a total of 10,000 sponsorship applications in 2018. In the interest of allowing more eligible Canadian Citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration, only eligible sponsors will be allowed to submit an Interest to Sponsor.  If allowed to submit the interest form, you'll be given a Confirmation Number.
  • Second, IRCC changed the procedure for sponsorship for the Parent Grandparent Class. If you intend to help your relatives immigrate, you'll have to complete and "Interest to Sponsor" form first.
  • Third, the Interest to Sponsor form will be available only from noon Eastern Standard Time January 2, 2018 until noon February 1, 2018.  If you miss this, then you will have to file next time the program reopens.
  • Fourth, once IRCC has finished reviewing all submission and removing duplicates, IRCC will  "randomly select" Confirmation Numbers.  If fortunate to have your application chosen, you'll receive an email from IRCC and be invited to submit a complete application.

It is therefore important that you meet eligibility requirements first and prepare documents as you will be given only 90 days to file the application to sponsor your parents or grandparents.

You can read more about eligibility factors and other important information about the Parent Grandparent Class if you believe you have what it takes to help your elderly family members immigrate to Canada.
