Australia's 2016-2017 Skilled Occupations List is now out!

Are you applying to STUDY in  Australia? Or do you want to apply for SKILLED IMMIGRATION?

If you answered yes to either question, you'll be happy to know that Australia's Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) already released the new Skilled Occupations List or SOL for 2016-17.  So mark your calendar, as the new SOL will be in effect on 1 July 2016 with the introduction and removal of some occupations.

Advice on the composition of the Skilled Occupations List is provided to Australia's Minister for Immigration and Border Protection by the Department of Education and Training. The SOL is important for skilled immigration as it identifies occupations that would meet medium and long-term skill needs of the Australian economy.

The 2016-2017 SOL has a number of changes to it. Occupations being added to the SOL from 1 July 2016 are:

  • Orthotist or Prosthetist (ANZSCO 251912)
  • Audiologist (ANZSCO 252711).

On the other hand, occupations being removed from the SOL from 1 July 2016 are:

  • Mining Engineer (Excluding Petroleum) (ANZSCO 233611)
  • Petroleum Engineer (ANZSCO 233612)
  • Metallurgist (ANZSCO 234912)
  • Environmental Health Officer (ANZSCO 251311)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Adviser (ANZSCO 251312)
  • Dental Hygienist (ANZSCO 411211)
  • Dental Prosthetist (ANZSCO 411212)
  • Dental Technician (ANZSCO 411213)
  • Dental Therapist (ANZSCO 411214)

If you lodged a valid application before July 1, 2016, your application will not be affected by these changes.  Only applications filed on or after that date for an independent or Family-Sponsored visa or a Temporary Graduate visa will be affected by changes in the SOL.
