VISA BULLETIN MARCH 2017 AND FIVE YEARS BEFORE

Yes, the visa allocation for this month – and for the remainder of the year – would still remain the same, despite the threat of President Donald Trump to bring down immigrant visa numbers to its historical figures – 400,000.  Check whether you should have received your interview schedule for next month.

Currently, the U.S. accepts an average of a million permanent residents.

We have provided the cut-off dates for the Family-sponsored categories from March 2011, as well as the Filing Dates and Final Action Dates for February and March to show how fast the visa categories have moved. As a reminder, the Filing Dates signal the ability to submit documents and pay the fees before visa numbers are available.  Hence an immigrant visa applicant would have documents ready by the time his or her priority date becomes current.

The Final Dates from Feb to March 2017 show the movement of each category for the one month period. The Filing Dates from March 2016 to March 2017 shows how fast the dates moved for applicants who may start submitting their documents.

To be a lawful permanent resident, a student (like Steve Job's biological Dad) must be sponsored by an employer or by a qualified relative or US citizen spouse: this family category is not covered by the yearly quota.

We have provided the March 2011 priority dates to show how fast – or slow – each category had moved for the past five years.   If you have not received your interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy despite your priority date being current, check the address that you – as well as your petitioner – have provided to the National Visa Center.    Be sure the NVC has your current mailing and email address.  And ask your designated Agent – if you have designated one as required by the Department of States - for updates.
