REQUIREMENTS TO WORK AS REGISTERED GENERAL NURSE IN GERMANY
Foreign nurses (specifically those from non-European countries or coming from a Non-European Area such as the Philippines) must be licensed in the State (Lander in Germany) of intended practice. Licensure first requires evaluation or recognition of an RN from the Philippines (RN-PH).
KNOWLEGE OF GERMAN IS REQUIRED
Knowledge of German is necessary. In general, you must have record of proficiency at at least language level B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages. In some cases you must also, or alternatively, demonstrate your specialist language knowledge. The competent authority where you need to send your application will provide you with the details.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE RECOGNIZED
If you want to work as a state registered nurse in Germany without any restrictions, you need a state licence. This licence acknowledges you as a state registered nurse and entitles you to practice the profession.
You may also apply for a state licence if you have foreign qualifications. The competent authorities review your qualifications for equivalence with a corresponding German qualification. A licence can only be issued if equivalence of qualification has been determined.
If you are a citizen of the European Union or the European Economic Area (EEA) and only wish to work in Germany on a temporary or occasional basis, you do not need a permit. You must register your activity with the competent authorities. Further information is available from the competent authorities.

Qualifications from non-EU/EEA states
You can choose whether to take an examination or to take part in a compensation measure lasting a maximum of three years. The examination tests for knowledge of the substance of the state final examination. The adaptation period concludes with a final examination to prove knowledge of course content. The licence is granted upon passing the examination and successful completion of the adaptation period.
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED WHEN SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION?
Should these documents not be in German, they must usually be accompanied by certified translations. You may present simple copies of your documents in cases where certified copies are not specifically required.

Appeal of Decision.
An appeal against the decision of the competent authority is permitted. This means you can take legal action against the decision in order to have this decision reviewed. Details regarding this are to be found in the appeal instruction at the end of your assessment notification. However, it is recommended that you clarify disputed issues with the competent authority before submitting the appeal.
WHERE TO SEND APPLICATIONS
The single point of contact (the appropriate authority) assists you with your application and forwards your documents to the competent authority carrying out the recognition procedure. This service is voluntary for you and is free of charge.
When applications via the single point of contact, applications can generally be made electronically. However, evidence and other documents may only be sent electronically if these have been issued and recognised in a member state of the European Union or the European Economic Area.

The procedure costs vary and depend on the individual case and the legal provisions in the respective Land. The relevant approbation authority determines the exact costs on an individual basis and will inform you about this.
