Canadian Residency FSW Update – August 2, 2013

Three months after announcing the availability of 5,000 permanent residency visas thru the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program only 389 applications have been received and considered complete.

Will the new Immigration Minister win the immigration battle, appeasing the Conservative Party while appealing to the Liberals?

Hon. Chris Alexander – the new Canadian Immigration Minister became the first resident Canadian Ambassador in Kabul, Afghanistan In August 2003. relieving resident chargé d'affaires a.i. Keith Fountain. From 2005 until mid-2009, he served as one of two deputy special representatives of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

The FSW program resumed on May 4, 2013 after being suspended. It will end on April 30, 2014, (unless otherwise stated by the new Minister) cap reached or not.  There is a limit of 300 per occupations.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada announced that due to the large number of applications received, the agency cannot check that each one is complete on the same day it gets to the office. The number of applications received and considered complete  are updated at least once a week. However, it should only be considered as a guide. There is no guarantee that an application sent in now will fall within the cap by the time it gets to the Centralized Intake Office.
