About This Program

The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Professional Studies-Vulnerable Peoples (Level 8) program of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology will enable learners to carry out their own research into a vulnerable community group, and find solutions that lead to positive health outcomes by applying theoretical study to these work-based situations.

Furthering their knowledge and professional practice enables professionals in leadership roles to maintain currency and develop their discipline by ongoing professional development. 

If you do not intend to enter the workforce after completing this postgraduate diploma program, you may also choose to enroll in the Masters of Management of the Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.  Should you decide to do so, you will be able to complete both qualifications in 18 months.

Upon successfully completing the requirements you will receive the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Professional Studies.

Course Delivery

This is a one year full-time, including holidays (if applicable).  There has been no announcement yet as to the start dates for 2018 and which of the campuses of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology will be offering this program.

During the course you explore and evaluate your own personal practice while learning to critique, analyse and find effective solutions to issues and challenges within your specialist field.

If you have already completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Vulnerable Peoples), you can finish this course in one semester

Please note that students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete the program.

  • When estimating your cost of living for an academic year, include accommodation rent, weekly supermarket shopping, some meals on campus, electricity bills, heating bills, refuse bills, parking fees, mobile phone expenses, travel, clothing, snacks on campus, socializing, and health.

Intake Dates :

Intake dates for 2018 have yet to be announced.

IVC has a 3-month preparation period that includes, among others:

  • Review by Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology for your eligibility;
  • Processing by the International Admissions Office;
  • Enrollment;
  • Processing of insurance;
  • Payment of tuition fee;
  • Visa processing;
  • Seeking accommodation.

It is important to apply early as this course may have many applicants.  Moreover, beginning an application well in advance of the intake date will allow you a lot of time to prepare for the IELTS and consolidate your academic and professional credentials for your visa application.  So make sure you apply early!

Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology as listed:

  • You must have completed a bachelor's degree or a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in a cognate subject, OR
    • The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Vulnerable Peoples)
  • You must have access to a relevant workplace.  If you are not currently employed it is expected that you'll have at least two years relevant experience to draw on.
  • As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You must therefore meet the minimum scores in ANY of the following tests:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) 6.5 overall band score with no individual band under 6.0
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based (TOEFL iBT): 79 overall, writing score of 21 minimum
    • PTE Academic: 58 overall minimum
