About This Program

The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Professional Studies - Infection Prevention and Control is for you if you want to advance your research in infection prevention and control.  If you are in a leadership role, you will be able to maintain currency and develop your discipline by ongoing professional development.

You will explore the factors influencing health research and gain practical skills in implementing and monitoring an infection control program during the course of this program.

You will receive the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Professional Studies (Infection Prevention and Control) award once you have completed this program.

You may be able to complete both this postgraduate diploma program and a Masters in Applied Professional Studies within 18 months.  Or , you may put your new skills to work and return at any time to continue to the masters' program.

Course Delivery

This diploma program is offered at the Mokoia Campus in Rotorua.  It is a one year full-time academic program, including holidays if applicable.

You will be applying theoretical study to examples of work-based situations.  If you have already completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Infection Prevention and Control), you can finish this program in one semester.

Please note that you will be responsible for your own transportation  to complete the program.

Intake Dates :

The start date for this Applied Professional Studies-Infection Prevention and Control Postgraduate Diploma is 23 July 2018.

IVC has a 2-3 month preparation period that includes, among others:

  • Review by Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology for your eligibility;
  • Processing by the International Admissions Office;
  • Enrollment;
  • Processing of insurance;
  • Payment of tuition fee;
  • Visa processing;
  • Seeking accommodation.

It is important to apply early as this course may have many applicants.  Moreover, beginning an application well in advance of the intake date will allow you a lot of time to prepare for the IELTS and consolidate your academic and professional credentials for your visa application.  So make sure you apply early!



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology as listed:

  • To be admitted you must meet either of the entry requirements:
    • You must have completed the equivalent of a bachelor's degree or a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in a cognate subject, OR
    • Finished the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Infection Prevention and Control)
  • As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You must therefore meet the minimum scores in ANY of the following tests that should have a validity of two years:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) 6.5 overall band score with no individual band under 6.0
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based (TOEFL iBT): 79 overall, writing score of 21
    • PTE Academic: 58 overall minimum
