About This Program

With sport and recreation being a major growth area in New Zealand, a number of positions are linked to the industry ranging from sports administrators to personal trainers.

This graduate diploma is designed for those who already hold a tertiary qualification or have considerable professional experience in sport, recreation or health, and want to gain a further qualification in sport and exercise. 

This Graduate Diploma in Sport & Exercise will introduce you to a range of topics including structural anatomy, physiology, nutrition and sports psychology and their application in a sport and exercise setting.

Upon successfully completing the requirements you will receive the award of Graduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise.  This award is unique as it will be issued jointly by Toi Ohomai and Auckland University of Technology.

Course Delivery

This Graduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise (Level 7) is a one-year program, including holidays whenever applicable.  It is offered in Tauranga, at the Windermere Campus.

Enjoy the practical classes of Toi Ohomai and passionate, supportive tutors as you gain qualifications to enter the sports market.

If you completed the Graduate Certificate in Sport and Exercise before enrolling , you may be able to finish this course full-time within one semester.

Please note that you will be responsible for your own transportation to complete the program.

The base tuition fee is approximately NZD29,200 depending on papers chosen for international students .

  • When estimating your cost of living for an academic year, include accommodation rent, weekly supermarket shopping, some meals on campus, electricity bills, heating bills, refuse bills, parking fees, mobile phone expenses, travel, clothing, snacks on campus, socializing, and health.



Intake Dates :

The start date for 2018 is 23 July.

IVC has a 2-3 month preparation period that includes, among others:

  • Review by Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology for your eligibility;
  • Processing by the International Admissions Office;
  • Enrollment;
  • Processing of insurance;
  • Payment of tuition fee;
  • Visa processing;
  • Seeking accommodation.

It is important to apply early as this course may have many applicants.  Moreover, beginning an application well in advance of the intake date will allow you a lot of time to prepare for the IELTS and consolidate your academic and professional credentials for your visa application.  So make sure you apply early!



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology as listed:

  • There are two ways to qualify for this program:
    • You must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree; OR
    • relevant professional qualification or experience approved by the relevant department staff as being equivalent to a bachelor's degree
  • As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You must therefore meet the minimum scores in ANY of the following tests that should have a validity of two years:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) 6.0 overall band score with no individual band under 5.5
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based (TOEFL iBT): 60 overall, writing score of 18
    • PTE Academic: 50 overall minimum
