About This Program

In today’s highly industrialized world, the need to restore and manage disturbed ecosystems is receiving more and more attention. Earn this graduate certificate and secure a competitive advantage in the environmental labour market including conservation authorities; municipal, provincial and federal government agencies; NGOs; engineering and consulting firms.

Students also participate in community based, year-long ecological restoration projects to give them real world experience.  Program highlights are as follows:

  • The Ecosystem Restoration program builds on university/college graduate education with a hands-on, boot-on focus
  • Intensive training in field techniques, project management and communication skills
  • Program is located on a unique ecological campus, which includes the Wetland Ridge Trail and part of the Niagara Escarpment
  • Biomonitoring, bioengineering and plant material management training supported by greenhouses, nurseries and a full complement of field equipment

Course Delivery

Classes are offered at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus of this academic institute.  Students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete practical lab requirements. Niagara College cannot guarantee locations that are readily accessible by public transportation. Students are responsible for all costs connected with such transportation.

Make sure you check with us first since Start Dates and Term Breaks may vary.  Beginning an application 6 months in advance of the intake date will allow you a lot of time to prepare for the visa application.



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations.  You must comply with the following requirements

  • Ontario College Diploma in Environmental Technician/Technology; Ecosystem Management Technician/Technology; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology; Botany; Ecology; Environmental and Resources Studies/Management; Environmental Science/Technology; Landscape Architecture; Wildlife, Zoology; OR
  • Submit a cover letter and resume outlining an acceptable combination of environmental work experience and post-secondary education (as determined by the College)
  • Proof of English proficiency.  As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You must therefore meet the minimum scores in ANY of the following tests:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) 6.5 overall band score with no individual band under 5.5
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
      • Paper: 550, TESL 600
      • Computer: 213, TESL 250
      • iBT: 79 - 80minimum, 22 writing, 22 Speaking
