About This Program

International students are eligible to register for this intensive 1 year program, which awards an Ontario College Graduate Certificate.

The program is designed for Registered Nurses to enhance their knowledge and skills through theory and simulated practice to care for the critically ill client in specialized areas.  Program highlights include the following:

  • Access to highly qualified international department team that is focused on supporting success for the unique needs of international students.
  • Unique interprofessional education experience with other health and allied health programs.
  • Access to Co-curricular program in which individuals gain recognition for student engagement, leadership and co-curricular activities pursued outside of the classroom.

This Critical Care Nursing program is available only to qualified internationally educated nurses. Ensure you discuss your career plans with your Visa Counselor first before proceeding.

Some graduates go on to study other post graduate certificates at Niagara College.

Course Delivery

This program is being offered at the Welland Campus of Niagara College.  As a student, you get to undergo experiential learning with standardized patients in a state of the art simulation lab.

Intake Dates :

There are three intake dates per year and these are in:

  • January
  • May
  • September

Make sure you check with us first since Start Dates and Term Breaks may vary.  Beginning an application 6 months in advance of the intake date will allow you a lot of time to prepare for the visa application.  With three intake dates though, you'll have plenty of time to prepare!



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations.  Admission requirements for this program include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing AND
  • If you have earned the equivalent of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) from outside Canada, you will be required to provide proof of one or more of the following:
  • Niagara College Mature Student Test for English
  • Grade 12 English at the C or U level (Ontario High School Curriculum)
  • ACE English (Academic Upgrading)
  • International Credential Assessment for studies outside of Canada

As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You may choose among any of the following:

  • IELTS (Academic Test) 6.0 overall band score with no individual band under 5.5
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • Paper: 500
    • Computer: 174
    • iBT: 79 minimum, 20 writing, 20 Speaking
