About This Program

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) is a non-transfer degree designed for students who seek employment and/or certification following completion.

Associate of Applied Science Degree - Architectural Design Technology - Residential Design Technology Emphasis will provide you with the knowledge and skills to design and produce quality residential projects.  After program completion, you will be better prepared for employment with an architectural firm that specializes in residential architecture.

Planning to carve a career for yourself in the United States?  Once you complete the program, you will satisfy the education requirements for professional registration as a residential designer in the state.

Careers

Upon course completion, you may be prepared for employment with architectural firms that specialize in residential architecture.  At the time of graduation, you would have satisfied the education requirements for professional registration as a residential designer with the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design or NSBAIDRD

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the degree, you will be expected to be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of architectural design theory as it relates to form, space and order as it pertains to the practice of architecture.
  • Gain the ability to prepare working drawings for residential design projects demonstrating your knowledge of sound design techniques and construction applications.
  • Be able to use hand drawn methods and computerized media to produce working drawings as mentioned above.

Make sure you check with us first since Start Dates and Term Breaks may vary.  With two intake dates though, you'll have plenty of time to prepare!



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations. 

You may have to prepare a cover letter when you submit your application.

As an international student, you must:

  • Show proof of competence in the use of the English language.  If you are not going to enroll in the Intensive English Language Center located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, you will have to present a passing score from ONE of the following exams:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) minimum 6.0 OR
    • TOEFL iBT 61 OR
    • TOEFL paper-based test 500 OR
    • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 500 or higher on the Critical Reading section. College Code: 1096.
    • American College Testing (ACT) score of 21 or higher. College Code: 2499.
  • Submit financial documents demonstrating that you have read access to a minimum of  USD22,888.00 for the 2017-2018 academic year.
    • All financial documents you present must be less than three months old.
    • If your immediate family members will be accompanying you in the United States, you must prove that you have additional financial resources:
      • USD7,000 for your spouse and;
      • USD3,000 for each child.

To be awarded the degree, you must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0;
  • Complete a minimum of 15 units within the college;
  • Satisfy General Education requirements for the AA/AS;
  • Have no financial or library obligation to the college.
