Truckee Meadows Community College ASS Degree - Culinary Arts by IVC

The culinary arts curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of the multi-faceted industry we serve. Individual courses provide the skill sets necessary to work in and operate culinary facilities. They take into account the business, people, skills and general education required to achieve success in a wide range of different food operations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the degree, you will be expected to be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic and advanced culinary skills through a series of learned competencies including but not limited to knife care, cutting techniques, stock preparation, complete meal planning, and restaurant experience.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge to work in commercial hot food kitchens, commercial cold food kitchens, and commercial bakery kitchens.

Make sure you check with us first since Start Dates and Term Breaks may vary.  With two intake dates though, you'll have plenty of time to prepare!



Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations. 

You may have to prepare a cover letter when you submit your application.

As an international student, you must:

  • Show proof of competence in the use of the English language.  If you are not going to enroll in the Intensive English Language Center located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, you will have to present a passing score from ONE of the following exams:
    • IELTS (Academic Test) minimum 6.0 OR
    • TOEFL iBT 61 OR
    • TOEFL paper-based test 500 OR
    • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 500 or higher on the Critical Reading section. College Code: 1096.
    • American College Testing (ACT) score of 21 or higher. College Code: 2499.
  • Submit financial documents demonstrating that you have read access to a minimum of  USD22,888.00 for the 2017-2018 academic year.
    • All financial documents you present must be less than three months old.
    • If your immediate family members will be accompanying you in the United States, you must prove that you have additional financial resources:
      • USD7,000 for your spouse and;
      • USD3,000 for each child.
