About This Program

Interested in pursuing a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation? Get started with this two-year, co-operative education eligible post-baccalaureate diploma program that satisfies the entrance requirements of the Chartered Professional Accountant’s (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than commerce or business administration.  You will gain the skills to secure intermediate-level accounting positions in financial reporting, taxation, management accounting and auditing.

You will be conferred the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting award after completing the course.

Is your degree in a commerce or business administration discipline? You should apply for entrance into the Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting program instead of this program.

Course Delivery

This Accounting (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma) is offered at the New Westminster campus of Douglas College.  It is taught full-time for two years.  Day and evening courses provide students with flexibility while earning their post-baccalaureate diploma.

Please note that you will be responsible for your own transportation to complete co-op, externship, internship or practical lab requirements when these are included in a program.


As stated above, the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting satisfies the entrance requirements of the Chartered Professional Accountant’s (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).

From there, you may move on to careers as:

* If you took ACCT 1235 instead of ACCT 1110 and ACCT 1210, you must take another 1000 - 4000 level elective from the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration. 1000-2000 level electives must be university transferable (courses that transfer to one of the 5 Research Universities - SFU, UBC, UBCO, UNBC or UVIC) according to the BC Transfer Guide.

  • Externship, internship, work term, apprenticeship fees are not included in the tuition fee.  This could range from $450 to a full term.
  • You will be responsible for your own transportation to complete externship, internship or practical lab requirements not listed above.

Intake Dates :

There are three intakes per year:

  • Fall (usually September)
  • Winter (usually January)
  • Spring (usually May)

IVC however, accepts applications for an intake date up to 7 months before the start of classes.  This preparation period includes:

  • Review by the department/school for your eligibility;
  • Processing by the Admissions Office of the college;
  • Enrollment;
  • Processing of insurance;
  • Seeking accommodation;
  • Processing of your student visa application.

The long period will also allow you sufficient time to:

  • Review for the English language proficiency exam;
  • Collate your documents;
  • Put together funds for the initial Tuition Fee payment and maintenance funds.

Entry Criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations of Douglas College.  You must comply with the following requirements:

  • You must have an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or an equivalent credential from an approved institution of a different country.
    • The degree must be in areas other than Business.
  • As an international student, you must be able to demonstrate a level of English competency. You must therefore meet the minimum scores in ANY of the following tests:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT):  Overall score of 83, minimum 20 in all sections;
    • IELTS (Academic Module):  Overall score of 6.5, no band below 6.0.
